Ron Black is a multifaceted public historian, historical research consultant, and author, renowned for his work in both general historical scholarship and culinary history. Originally from Providence, Rhode Island, and now residing in Lebanon, Connecticut, Ron has combined his deep love for history with his passion for food to create engaging and informative works that bring the past to life.

Ron’s journey began with an education in elementary teaching before he earned a Bachelor of Arts in American History. His academic pursuits culminated in a Master of Arts in Public History from Southern New Hampshire University in 2019, followed by a certificate in Archaeology from DigVentures, a CIfA Accredited Fieldschool in the United Kingdom, in 2020. This diverse educational background has equipped him with a unique skill set that spans historical research, museum management, and archaeological fieldwork.

In his role as the executive director of the Jillson House Museum in Willimantic, Connecticut, where he served for two years, Ron was responsible for the museum's day-to-day operations. His responsibilities included overseeing the management of the museum’s collections, curating both general and special exhibits, and conducting historical and genealogical research for the museum and the Windham Historical Society. His leadership in these roles contributed significantly to the preservation and interpretation of the region’s history.

With over 30 years of experience as a costumed historical reenactor, Ron has also served as a consultant for reenactment groups and historic sites, assisting in the planning and development of historically accurate reenactments. His notable achievements include orchestrating the Windham 365 Anniversary Timeline Reenactment and curating the 325 Years of Windham and Willimantic exhibit at the Jillson House Museum. Ron’s expertise in historical reenactment is further demonstrated through his authorship of several manuals on authenticity and accuracy, as well as his development of costumed interpretation programs and educational initiatives for school children.

In addition to his work in general history, Ron is also a dedicated domestic and culinary historian. He studied at Johnson & Wales University, where he developed a profound appreciation for the culinary arts. This passion, combined with his historical expertise, led him to explore the rich and diverse culinary traditions of the past. Through this work, Ron guides readers on a culinary journey that bridges the gap between historical tradition and the modern kitchen.
